Zambujeira do Mar, Alentejo

Zambujeira do Mar in Alentejo is located on the Atlantic Coast south of Lisbon. The small fishing village, with a population of less than 1000, hosts the annual 4-day rock Festival Sudoeste in early August.

Zambujeira do Mar

Zambujeira do Mar is known for its mild winters and natural setting as it is situated in a nature park known for its birds (Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina). The wild deserted beaches are also excellent for surfing. These include the central beach in Zambujeira itself which is popular for bodyboarding, and the beaches of Alteirinhos, Nossa Senhora, Arquinha and Tonel.

Festivals

In August, the three biggest events on the local calendar take place: in the 1st week of the month, the Festival do Sudoeste, the biggest summer music festival in the country, located a few kilometers from the village. On August 15th there is the religious festival and procession dedicated to the local patron saint, Nossa Senhora do Mar, and on the 29th of August, the annual fair.
