Windmills in Algarve Portugal
Windmills in Portugal, Algarve
The western Algarve can be a pretty windy place with strong breezes blowing in from the Atlantic. A number of picturesque windmills were built in the 19th century on the Algarve coast and were used as olive and corn mills.
A number of the Algarve region's preserved and historic windmills have now been tastefully converted into self-catering holiday cottages or homes.
There are windmills to let in Albufeira, Tavira, Salema and other towns on the Algarve coast. Some recommended places to stay within windmills is Windmill Hill in Cercal, the Pura Vida Windmill Lodge in Azoia, the Casa Moinho do Oeste in Moledo.
The windmill below is in Sintra.
